World Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield Visits Rookie Loan Officers

Prospect’s Rookie Loan Officer training class recently received a surprise visit from five-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield. The visit was arranged through a Sterling Partners relationship with Prospect’s Executive Leaders. During the visit, Evander shared how he got into boxing and his personal challenges growing up. His insightful dialogue with the Rookies and their Mentors included an encouraging pep-talk about how he overcame challenges, setbacks and failures, and how the Rookies can apply these life lessons as they take on the mortgage industry.

Evander was riveting to listen to and we were hanging on every word,” said Concord, California Branch Manager and Rookie Mentor Kelley DalPorto Granger. “I was intrigued by his sense of humor and extreme humility. His message was very clear: ‘Never give up.’ He told us his mother always believed in him and that has given him the strength to be a champion in every sense. It’s an outlook he wants to share and create for young children, troubled kids and adults and be a positive influence around the world.”

“One of the coolest things about Evander is his competitive spirit,” said Rookie Loan Officer Preston Sims, of the Honolulu, Hawaii Branch. “The story underlying his whole message was from when he was a little kid getting beat up by another little kid. He has been a world champion several times and still gets fired up about getting beat in boxing as a kid. I think this message translates well in this industry because getting ‘beat up’ can happen frequently. The important thing, as Evander said, is to keep after your goal until you are a champion.”
