Evander Holyfield comes to Portland, receives key to city

PORTLAND (AP) — Former world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield has received the key to the city in Portland. Portland Mayor Michael Brennan presented Holyfield with the key during a ceremony Friday afternoon at the Portland Regency Hotel and Spa. Holyfield is in Portland as a guest of the All Star Boxing event scheduled to take place at Portland Expo on Saturday.

In his remarks, Holyfield credited his mom for believing in him and giving him encouragement.

Holyfield was boxing’s undisputed heavyweight champ from 1990 to 1992.

    Wow…I remember when you came to Duluth, Minnesota in the early 80′s. I think you just lasted 1 & a half rounds before your opponent was nearly past out from your last hit… I was honored when Mike Sullivan/Owner of Phase II came to Les Souer’ Modeling School and picked me along with another Model to be “Round Girls” for your event at the Duluth Arena. If I knew that someday “YOU” would end up as A World Champion I would have asked for your autograph… ~way back then ~
